Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Many of us have experienced a time in our life when we have felt alone, emotional, distraught. We know that God is with us, but we would like someone to listen to our frustrations and fear, hold our hand, pray with us… all without fear of retribution, judgment or breach of confidentiality. This, in a nutshell, is Stephen Ministry.
This one-to-one caring ministry engages specially trained lay people, called Stephen Ministers, to support those who are struggling with a life challenge or crisis such as divorce, death, terminal illness, family member illness, loss of a job, new baby, empty nest, etc. The Stephen Minister meets with the care receiver on a regular basis to listen to them, support them and pray with them all in complete confidentiality.
There are currently 6 trained Stephen Ministers at First. If you or someone you know are in need of this kind of ministry, or if you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister, please contact the church office.
An application must be completed for those interested in participating in the Stephen Minister training classes. You can print a copy of the application here. Please complete the application and return it to the church office. All applications are confidential.
If you would like to see a tentative schedule of training dates for the Stephen Minister training that began in January, 2015, please click here. While a second training was held from September through December 2015, a new training is not currently scheduled.
